question for the published poets

For folks reading this who have had their poetry published - where do you submit your poetry (and, for extra credit, why there)?

I use the Poets' Market or Duotrope (www.duotrope.com) because they've already got mechanisms for figuring out which market might want a particular poem of mine. I also keep an eye out for local publications that might be suitable, like compilations of local poetry, but those are easier to know about if you're hanging out at readings a lot.

I use Duotrope to look for a magazine that will be a good fit. I've started limiting my searches to places that pay (feel like I've gotten enough pubs under my belt to risk it) but duotrope is awesome for finding any place that might fit.

Then, I try to read what the magazine has published in the past and see what I have that will fit. Sometimes I'll send a poem that I'm not 100% sure is a good fit, just because I think there's a chance.

I submitted mine to Astropoetica, 'cause I write science-y poetry -- www.astropoetica.com

They took a long time to reply, and then a long time to put the poem up, but they paid (I think it was $10, but it might have been $5) promptly.
