Well golly gee

I was reading something I picked up at Wiscon '03: "James Tiptree, Jr. Award Cumulative Lists: Winners, Shortlists and Longlists." I was writing down the winners in my reading recommendations file.

Turns out my story "Tiresias," which was published in Genderflex (Circlet Press) under the name Firecat, made the 1996 Tiptree "Longlist" (which included 41 entries, including Elizabeth Moon's Remnant Population, Kim Stanley Robinson's Blue Mars, and Lori Selke's "A Boy's Night Out," also in Genderflex.)

There's a comment by Janet Lafler: "A very sexy story which, incidentally, illustrates the distinction between gender change and sex change."

I am really chuffed by this. I saw two other reviews of the story, back when it was published, and they were somewhat negative.

Well, that oughta provide me with a shot in the arm for these last 7K words of my nanowrimono...

Coolness!

And kudos on your nanowrimo progress.
(I can bring my cheerleader outfit tomorrow if you'd like some more encouragement...)

Thanks!

I'm sure that would encourage me in some manner, but I'm not sure writing would be foremost on my mind. ;-)

Re: Well golly gee
(a) Circlet Press says Genderflex is out of print but they might have a few copies left to order. The story is also up on my web site here.

(b) The award list is at the Tiptree website.

Re: Well golly gee
I liked the story. Thanks for the link. And I am not at all surprised that it'd be a Tiptree candidate.

Hee. I do wish, but tracing the name Firecat back to me was a bit harder back then.

w00t!
"Chuffed" looks like a negative word. I totally didn't get it.

But, yay you.

P.S.: Why didn't they notify you at the time...?

Re: w00t!
I suspect they didn't notify me because they didn't know Firecat was me and because it's a volunteer organization without a lot of extra bandwidth for notifying every author who got onto the list.

As for chuffed, I've clearly been spending too much time hanging out on the Sweet forum with a bunch of Brits, and I've picked up a bunch of their slang.

http://english2american.com/dictionary/c.html:

chuffed adj. Someone who describes themselves as being chuffed is generally happy with life. You can also get away with saying you are unchuffed or dischuffed if something gets your back up. Make sure you only use this word in the correct tense and familiarise yourself with the meaning of the word chuff too.
