Random stuff of the week

I am totally grooving on Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It's got every kind of music I really liked. Beatles and Punk Rock and Electric Folk and... great lyrics.

Watched my DVD of Dark City while listening to the Roger Ebert commentary soundtrack. I think Dark City is a cool movie but I think it's kind of funny the way "feeelm creeetics" drool over it. (Nevertheless, I think a lot of what Ebert had to say was very perceptive and interesting.)

Looked at the web page of glass artist Dinah Hulet. (Thanks, elynne!) What an incredibly focused person and very talented. I wonder what it is like to be completely attached to a particular medium. I haven't found a medium I want to work in, although there are media I think are cool and kinds of work that I like to do.

I felt like I did better at dog-training class this week. The first dog I worked with in the class that I actually liked ended up getting euthanized a few days after the class. I feel like that was a Bad Sign for my success in the class. But this week I worked again with the pug/dachsund mix from two weeks ago. She was more well behaved this time and I felt sort of competent working with her, even though I can't say I *like* her (she isn't a people oriented dog).

I had great fun watching Aristocats and Desk Set with OH and rosefox on Thursday. It was very relaxing and fun to watch those movies w/ someone who appreciates them the same way OH and I do.

OH took really nice care of me Friday while I was doing a bunch of paperwork. He fed me breakfast and lunch. Then I had dinner with Q and we sat around looking at a lot of craft books. I said "I'm turning 40 and I am reclaiming the right to do old-lady things like crafts and working with animals." Q was bothered by that so I added "...and play parties."

Thoughts upon listening to yet another message recorded by my voicemail modem that consists only of a dial tone (and was therefore no doubt a computer generated telelmarketing call):

I wonder if Richard Dawkins would say that people are computers' way of making more computers.

Gender Bending for All Ages

Have you ever noticed that old guys like to wear feminine hats when they are out gardening and walking the dog? My dad wears one, and today I saw an old guy watering his garden and wearing a hat with a flowered band. That's charming.

Maintaining friendships with ex's

I'm afraid I'm not very good at maintaining relationships with former sweeties. In a number of cases I am theoretically willing to, but neither of us puts effort into it. In other cases when the relationship ends I just don't see anything left that is worth maintaining. I feel cold about it, but there it is.
