day 31, poem 24

xposted to poets_challenge and 100poems

There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire. The other is to gain it. - George Bernard Shaw

standing in the yard, a solid
member of the community, grown-
up and reliable: the kind of guy
you'd trust to give advice to your
children, the kind
you'd nominate to run for chair
of your civic organization - he's

standing in the yard, at three a.
m., in his pajama bottoms, holding
a half-full glass of milk, keeping company
with the crazy, up-all-night mocking-
bird, watching stars that blink faintly
through the static of the street lamps,
and weeping
softly
weeping.

(word list: yard, member, advice, grown (adj), run (v))

Oooh--very nice. Good descriptions. You almost lost me halfway through the second stanza, but the ending of it punched and brought me right back in. The ending makes it.
