100 The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein

WH Auden thought this tale of fantastic creatures looking for lost jewellery was a “masterpiece”.
The descriptions of the rest of the novels are silly too, but not downright wrong, and the authors' names are mostly spelled correctly.

Fantastic creatures attempting to ditch a piece of jewellery, OK. Although a fair number of the characters are in fact looking for the ring.
