This would convince me to watch Dr Who

You guys, Helen Mirren just said in an interview that she would like to play the Doctor on Doctor Who. And then I exploded. Wow. Helen Mirren. Doctor Who. With a creamy “wants to play” center.
I don't need that much convincing...it's just that I find the number of episodes daunting compared to the amount of time I spend watching TV by myself...the OH having said he doesn't want to watch Dr Who.

...although come to think of it, he might well watch Helen Mirren do Dr Who.

Wow. Helen Mirren. Doctor Who.

Quite the image, there!

it's just that I find the number of episodes daunting compared to the amount of time I spend watching TV by myself.

Many Doctor Who episodes stand alone quite well, so you could pick and choose a couple to watch -- no need to watch them all, or in order. If you want to chat with me about it, I'd be delighted to help out.

Back when I actually used to go to other people's houses, it seemed like most of the people I knew had at least 2 televisions -- one in the living room and one in the bedroom. So each person could watch their shows without bugging the others. It seems like a reasonable arrangement. And we own 2 televisions. But we've never felt like setting them up in different rooms. I don't know why. We just... put up with each others' shows, and the extra TV languishes in the basement in case the other one explodes or something.

I tend to be something of a completist about TV series, but I'd love to have recommendations for a couple of Dr Whos to watch.

I can watch TV on my computer. I just mostly don't. But I have plans to get a more comfy computer chair, and maybe I will then.

What kind of episode would you enjoy? Silly, serious drama, mystery, historical, horror, social commentary, more emphasis on the sci fi aspect, more emphasis on the time travel aspect? Doctor who does them all.

One of my top favorites is "Midnight" with David Tennant as the Doctor. I think it stands alone as a sci fi/horror/mystery story, with a bit of humor. The performances are great. It's not an "arc episode," so you can watch it independent of the rest.

Not too silly, but otherwise anything. I'll try "Midnight." Thanks!

My other top recommendations are "Tooth and Claw," which features Queen Victoria and werewolves, and "The Girl In the Fireplace," which features a time window into 18th century France, cool-looking androids, and a bit of romance. Both are stand-alone episodes and both lean toward the horror genre.

That might be enough to get me to watch it, too. :)

But then, I'd watch her read the phone book.
