10 lines in the sand

Inspired by the "10 (or so) rules" meme, last seen in rjmwell's journal. But I would consider these reminders rather than rules.

1. Don't do rules.
2. There's more than one kind of intelligence.
3. No armchair psychoanalyzing.
4. Don't forget your orgasms.
5. This too shall pass.
6. Conformity is overrated. Nonconformity is even more overrated.
7. There's more than one way to look at it, and the views are worth it.
8. Say no and mean it. Say yes and mean it.
9. Do what you love.
10. You never really know what you're going to do next.

These are all very good memes. I strive for number 9.

Yeah, I think #9 is the most important, and the others are more or less in service of it.

(Why is it so hard to do what you love?)

Re: 10 lines in the sand
1. Don't do rules.

you rock. i was just about to post my list, and it was only gonna contain two items:

  • i don't do rules.
  • i use the pronoun "i" whenever appropriate, which is a whole lot more often than one might expect.

but then i got to thinking that i probably have a few more guidelines than that, when i am not feeling snarky at the damn prescriptiveness i feel from a lot of people. i might take up your "lines in the sand" instead, and make it an ongoing thing (which is basically is, but i don't usually write about it anywhere, except when individual items come up in alt.poly.

Cool! I would really like to have the "lines in the sand" meme spread, and I'm sure I'd like yours.

OK, I admit I am making weird variations on your item 2:
"i use the pronoun 'i' whenever appropriate, which is a whole lot more often than you might expect."
"i use the pronoun 'i' whenever appropriate, which is a whole lot more often than i might expect."
"i use the pronoun 'you' whenever appropriate, which is a whole lot less often than you might expect."
"you should use the pronoun 'i' whenever appropriate, which is a whole lot more often than you might expect."
